Americans drink slowly

As a Brit in America, one thing I’ve noticed over the last ten years is that Americans drink so slowly. I can probably put away the same amount but I tend to put down at least two pints for each of their one. I know my limits so cut myself off later and they usually catch up but I’m interested in understanding why they do it so slowly. Slowly sipping an ice cold beer, just waiting for it to get warm.
