Premium liquor for my dad as a wedding gift – what do you recommend?
Hi everyone!
I’m putting together a parents’ gift box for my dad for my upcoming wedding, and I need some help picking out a premium bottle of liquor for it.
I’m not really an expert when it comes to spirits, but I know exactly what he likes and dislikes:
What he likes: Ararat and Metaxa. What he absolutely hates: Whiskey of any kind.
Originally, I was thinking of getting him a high-end Ararat, but it turns out he already has unopened 10-year and 20-year (Nairi) bottles at home. Going for anything above that category feels like too much of a stretch, so I’m dropping this idea.
So, I’m leaning towards Metaxa. As far as I know, he usually drinks the classic 5-Star and 7-Star versions.
The Metaxa 12 Stars seems like a logical upgrade. However, there are also the Metaxa Private Reserve and the Grande Fine. My concern is: if someone is used to the lighter, sweeter profile of the 5 and 7-Star, are the Private Reserve or Grande Fine a safe upgrade, or do they have a completely different, much heavier/oakier character that he might not even enjoy?
I’d love your advice on two things:
Sticking with Metaxa, is the 12 Stars the safest “premium upgrade”, or is it totally fine to go for the Private Reserve or Grande Fine based on what he likes? Based on his taste profile is there a completely different premium bottle that would be a great surprise for him?
Thanks in advance for the recommendations!
