Review: 2022 McCollum Heritage 91 Pinot Noir
McCollum was designed in partnership with Oregon’s Adelsheim Vineyard when it launched in 2018. Four years later the project is still going strong, though this craft pinot noir now also incorporates fruit from the McCollum family’s own 318-acre estate in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. As this wine evolves, let’s see how things are progressing.
Give this wine a couple of minutes in glass for its darker, huskier elements to temper — there’s a ton of fruit and spice, but it all lingers under the surface. With patience, this wine exudes notes of black cherry and plum, with brighter notes of ripe blackberry, blueberry, and some strawberry giving this a surprisingly fruity kick. Fresh ginger and a pinch of anise linger on the finish.
The label may lack finesse. The wine inside has no such issue.
