Review: Wines of K-Estate, 2026 Releases
While a sizeable sum of U.S. wineries find themselves retreating, shuttering tasting rooms, trimming ambitions, or informing shareholders that caution was always in the cards, the Heath Family portfolio carries on adding labels, acreage, and reasons to remain relevant in the ongoing campaign to make Texas a formidable wine destination. K-Estate (Kuhlman Estate) sits within that growing portfolio, alongside the previously reviewed Grape Creek, Invention, and the company’s namesake offerings. That broader lineup proved varied, ambitious, and occasionally surprising when we looked at it in late 2025. Let’s see where K-Estate fits, and if it earns the space Heath has made for it.
2023 K-Estate Texas Hill Country Tempranillo Review
A classic Tempranillo profile of strawberry, black cherry, and tobacco leaf opens things nicely, alongside a faint earthy note of cedar providing something sturdier upon which to stand. The modest tannins form a nice layer around the ever-present red fruit, but there’s a nice combination of leather and oak notes toward the finish moving the whole affair along nicely. Fans of Tempranillo from Rioja or Ribera del Duero will find this very agreeable. A- / $60
2024 K-Estate Texas Hill Country White Blend Review
A blend of 45% Marsanne, 35% Rousanne, and 20% Albarino. The nose leads with citrus, white peach, and pear, followed by a light layer of white flowers as it warms in the glass. On the palate, the brightness of the citrus fruit does the heavy lifting at first, but it eventually yields to a pleasantly rounded texture and clean minerality. There is a freshness that makes this offering ideal to welcome Spring’s arrival, but also enough structure to keep the whole thing from drifting into overpriced, mid-level restaurant anonymity. The acidity is lively without reaching levels of shrillness. Which, in the world of white blends, counts as both technical success and a moral win. B+ / $40
