Is drinking ethanol-based cleaning substances a thing?

I live in Ireland and the government’s minimum pricing has led to the cheapest beers becoming unaffordable. Unsurprisingly, I’ve turned to sanitizers that now contain ethanol (same alcohol in normal alcohol) after COVID as it’s cheaper.

My friends think it’s insane but my other friends from Eastern Europe say it’s not unheard of for people to drink bath lotions containing alcohol.
