I Want to Bring Wine for My Boss’s Dinner. What Should I Buy?

So my boss invited a few of us over for dinner this weekend,I know he’s really into wine, so I figured it’d be a nice gesture to bring a bottle.. except I know absolutely nothing about wine. Normally I wouldnt care that much but there’s a senior position opening up in a few months that I really want. I know one bottle of wine aint going to get me promoted, but first impressions and little things matter a lot in my opinion. The problem is… I know absolutely nothing about wine, i’ve always been a beer guy. I went to the liquor store after work and stood there for almost 20 minutes. Every bottle looked the same, every label had some fancy description, and I had no clue if spending $15 meant I was cheap or if spending $50 meant I was getting ripped off. Ended up leaving empty handed because I was overthinking the whole thing. Please tell me I’m not the only person who’s frozen in the wine aisle like this. And do you have any tips of what to do ?
