Which to buy

I just turned 18 (in Canada so I can legally buy alcohol), and want to try some rums to make rum and cokes and take shots. I’m debating on clear, dark, gold or spiced rum (all types of rum). I’m leaning gold rum but I don’t really know what to get or expect. I can handle lots of alcohol taste but don’t really want there to be too strong of a burn. Thank yall
