Weird alcohol state ID laws in NC seem against ada? Any other states have this?

Okay so background, I’m from North Carolina, well over 21 now lol, but I have a state ID. I don’t drive (vision impairment) which is why I don’t have a drivers license. Now I’ve traveled a lot with my state ID and never had an issue with buying alcohol in any of the states I’ve been to at least (I also have a passport and passport card but never had to use them for this purpose).

I just discovered via someone from out of state complaining, but apparently in NC because of ALE laws the only acceptable forms of ID to buy alcohol are US drivers License, a NC state ID, Military ID, there might’ve been one other I don’t remember.

BUT, the key point here is they don’t accept IDs from out of state specifically. This person was from Virginia and legally completely blind but couldn’t be served because it was a VA state ID and not a NC one or a US driver’s license (they obviously also can’t drive).

This seems bizarre to me because lots of people with disabilities wouldn’t have a drivers license or a military ID but could be visiting from out of state because NC gets so much tourism. Do any other states have this type of law?
