I spent 200+ hours making a full fledged cocktail app with AR mixing
Hello all! I couldn’t find anything against self promotion in the rules here, and I think this is the right audience for this, but let me know if so and I can take this down.
Earlier this year when the Apple Vision Pro was announced, I came up with an idea to make a bartending app where you could place down a virtual glass, put your physical glass in its place, and make drinks similar to what this sort of thing is trying to accomplish. I made that fairly quickly, but iPhone augmented reality is still a bit limited so I was only able to get it done with a pint glass. It works for most drinks if you’re willing to mix in a pint glass and pour into your preferred glass type after.
Anyway, after that I started looking around the collection of bartending apps on the app store and didn’t feel like there was one I was happy with. I wanted something simple and easy to use and everything felt like there was too much going on & was hard to navigate.
I worked with a friend with tons of experience in UX and design to create a bunch of custom artwork and create what I feel is the easiest to use bartending app out there. I’m really invested in polishing it and adding features over time, inspired a lot by how the Apollo reddit app developer got so much feedback from his community.
DrinkSmith launched a few weeks ago and has an easy to use drink carousel, ingredient filtering, the AR mode that I mentioned above, filtering by what’s in your bar at home, custom drinks, and looking to add so much more.
I would really love if ya’ll would take a look and give some feedback and suggest what you’d like to see in the future. Thanks so much!
If you’re interested you can grab it here 🙂
