Review: Grey Goose Berry Rouge Vodka

Its Essences aside, it’s been nearly 15 years since we last encountered a flavored Grey Goose expression. That changes today with a look at Grey Goose Berry Rouge, which is flavored with a mix of berry flavors — strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry — all from “the sun-kissed fields of the Mediterranean.

That’s about all we know (and more than most vodka producers are likely to tell you), so let’s dive in.

Grey Goose Berry Rouge Vodka Review

Appropriately, the nose of this vodka is bold with berry aromas, though there’s an ethanol underbelly that keeps any overt fruitiness in check. Blackberry and raspberry are seemingly the most immersive on the nose, but given the fruit salad construction of the spirit, it’s hard to pin anything down with any real specificity.

The palate feels brighter than the darker fruit that infuses the nose. Here, strawberry dominates, with raspberry playing second fiddle. A modest vanilla tone keeps everything in check and gives the vodka a wholly appropriate dessert-like character. This isn’t a spirit for martinis, of course, but it slides right into place in a cosmo or as the lead role in a long drink made with soda or another fizzy mixer. It finishes with a surprising cleanliness, stuffed with crushed berries while also offering a curious, lingering touch of fresh pear juice.

It’s not the sort of thing I personally tend to mix cocktails up with, but even I can’t complain about how balanced and generally delightful the Berry Rouge experience is.

80 proof.
