Alcohol doesn’t lower my inhibitions anymore.

I’ve noticed the last several years that when I drink it no longer seems to lower my inhibitions like it used to. I was never really a frequent drinker so I don’t think tolerance is the issue. Generally I’m more on the reserved and quiet side when sober and when I was younger alcohol would be able to get me out of my shell and I’d be way less shy. But a few years ago I went out for drinks with a date and after a couple drinks a huge wave of anxiety hit, even though everything was going well up until that point. I was able to calm myself a bit and got through it but I thought it was really strange. Ever since that day alcohol doesn’t feel the same. It’s almost like it’s having the opposite effect now. Instead of making me cheery and outgoing like it used to it actually makes me kind of depressed and anxious and still nervous to talk to people. I also experience really bad “hangxiety” the day after drinking, which again never used to happen. Because of this I haven’t drank in about a year but was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar?
