How do you hit the perfect buzz/drunkness and stay there as long as possible?
A lot of people optimize drinking to reach a high Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC). I think thats the wrong target. The good part, the warm social euphoria which sits at a low BAC on the way up. Past a certain BAC you’re just trading it for sedation and a worse tomorrow.
This is basically everything Ive pieced together from researching this online, so if something looks off or flat out wrong please tell me. Also genuinely curious if some of you disagree with the whole premise, like if you actually prefer being at a higher BAC. Mostly just want peoples input. The reasoning is below.
Alcohol is biphasic. On the rising limb, while your BAC is going up, it acts like a stimulant. Euphoria, warmth, social ease. Once you peak and start dropping the sedative side takes over and you get sleepy, sloppy and flat.
The sweet spot is around 0.03 to 0.06 BAC, basically 1 to 3 drinks in. The thing most people miss is that the euphoria is a rising limb thing. More alcohol past the peak doesnt bring it back. It just raises your peak and makes the crash worse.
Heres the best way I’ve found to actually do it.
What to drink then?
Low ABV is your friend. Vodka soda, ranch water, High Noon, light beer. You get more volume and more time per unit of alcohol. Eat a real meal first, protein and fat especially. It slows everything down and flattens the curve. Gentler rise, lower peak, longer plateau. Carbonation speeds things up so onset is quicker. Good for getting on the curve, easy to overshoot with.
How to pace it for maximum euphoria?
You clear about one standard drink an hour and you cant speed it up.
First hour or two, 1 to 2 drinks to get onto the curve. After that, about 1 an hour to hold the plateau.
What to avoid:
Shots and rounds. They force a pace that isnt yours and spike you straight past the sweet spot. Drinking on an empty stomach. Fast sharp spike, easy overshoot, wrecks your stomach. Sugary drinks and anything syrupy. The sweetness hides the alcohol so you drink faster and overshoot without noticing. Dark liquor and red wine. Drink clear not dark, dark has way more congeners which is what gives you the rough after effects and worse morning. High ABV strong seltzers, the 8 percent plus stuff. Peaks you too fast and kills the pacing. Trying to chase the buzz back once youre past the peak. It doesnt come back, you just raise your peak and make the crash worse.
The whole point is staying in the zone where you feel the most euphoric and good, without the sedation, and honestly thats a way better night than just peaking at some really high level of sedative drunkenness. Let me know if I’m off on anything or if you have differing data
