Weird half-asleep experience after drinking

I had a really weird experience recently and I’m curious if anyone else has had something like this.

I work at a bar/nightlife place, and after my shift ended I stayed and drank quite a lot. The next morning I woke up slightly hungover and tired, so I went back to sleep.

For about an hour I was in this strange half-awake state. I could feel that I was dizzy and lying in my bed, but at the same time my brain was completely stuck in the previous night. It genuinely felt like I was still at work. My mind kept creating situations where I had to finish tasks, clean things up, move stuff around, etc. It was like my boss was telling me: “This is the last thing you need to do, just finish this one thing,” and I was mentally trying to complete those tasks.

The weirdest part was that sometimes I was aware of reality. I knew I was actually in my bed and that my shift was already over, but another part of my brain was still acting like I was at work.

I had a similar thing happen after a house party. I woke up hungover, went back to sleep, and my brain basically recreated the party. In the dream/half-awake state, my friends kept offering me drinks and I was constantly trying to control the situation and tell them to stop drinking.

I’m wondering if this is just a normal hypnagogic state mixed with alcohol, or if alcohol specifically makes these experiences more likely.

Has anyone else experienced something similar after drinking, especially the feeling of still being at work or continuing an activity from the previous night while half asleep?
