Review: 2022 Spring Valley Vineyard Nina Lee Syrah Walla Walla Valley
Would you believe our last review of a wine from Spring Valley Vineyard was a 2007 bottling? 15 years later we’re back with a look at a new expression, a syrah called Nina Lee. (Pronounced Nine-ah Lee, by the way.)
This may be 100% syrah, but it sure doesn’t show it, offering a surprisingly fruity attack that features bright raspberry and blueberry notes, later boysenberries in syrup, but it’s all kept in check with healthy notes of dark chocolate and a bit of anise. Layers of graphite and a hint of tar evoke density, but the finish lightens up nicely, with touches of brown banana, spiced raisins, and gingerbread adding some unexpected sweetness to the back end.
Give this one some time to develop, as it’s a surprising crowd-pleaser with plenty of nuance to explore.
