Review: Non-Alcoholic Beers of Best Day Brewing, Complete Lineup
Best Day Brewing hails from, of all places, Sausalito, California, a tiny residential and tourist community north of the Golden Gate Bridge that’s best known for expensive sushi and even pricier cocktails. Since its founding in 2020, the company has become one of the most widely distributed non-alcoholic beer brands, with availability of its six offerings in 46 states.
We dug into the entire lineup of the brand as it stands today — and will update this post as additional expressions are released.
Beers are ranked in order of personal preference.
Best Day Brewing Kolsch Style – Lemony and refreshing, with an undertone of chewy barley. Arguably the most approachable beer in this lineup thanks to its citrusy punch, the brew is simple but authentic, lacking the odd earthiness on the finish that can often impact N/A beers, instead concluding with a rounded maltiness that truly feels like you’re drinking a standard kolsch. A
Best Day Brewing Wild American Pils – Bold and bready, like a fresh loaf pulled from the oven. Hints of lemon peel and a touch of coriander add some nuance to what is otherwise a very straightforward light lager experience, clean and brisk and as authentic as any non-alc beer experience you’ll find today. That hint of lemon clings to the finish, offering just enough brightness to make the fade-out sing. It’s a touch of genius that elevates what might otherwise be an overly simplistic beer into quite a memorable one. A-
Best Day Brewing Electro-Lime Cerca de Cerveza – Don’t be put off by the name of the beer or the can’s wild color scheme. It’s rather limey but not so electro that it isn’t easily enjoyable, coming across as a credible rendition of a Mexican lager, with the lime already added. Bright and crisp up top, the citrus squeeze comes along on the finish, finishing things up with a cleansing, balancing touch of fruit. Best of all it wholly avoids the trap of dousing the beer with salt, a problem that mars many N/A Mexican lagers. A-
Best Day Brewing Galaxy Ripple Imperial IPA – This smells the part, rich with fruity hops on the nose, and the body — for the most part — follows suit. It’s big and bold, well-rounded and studded with fruit notes, primarily (and surprisingly) green apple, followed by some citrus. All of the above inevitably fades as the finish comes into focus, but there’s enough brisk, bitter life in the lead-up to make the relatively tame conclusion less of a concern. A-
Best Day Brewing West Coast IPA – A completely credible rendition of a hop-forward IPA, lightly piney and earthy, with a little lemon kick on the finish. A stronger fruit component would be more than welcome but the beer works well enough without it, thanks in part to touches of coriander that linger after the brew gets a little heat on it. B+
Best Day Brewing Hazy IPA – N/A hazies are tricky, and this one is about average for the field. Only modestly translucent, the beer has a heavy bitterness I’d associate more with a west coast style, earthy with overtones of leather and wet slate. Late-game notes of dehydrated lemon peel and grains of paradise provide some respite from the bitter onslaught, but never offering a meaningful change of scenery. B
each $14 per six-pack of 12 oz cans
