Review: 2024 Serena Mode 0.0 Sauvignon Blanc and Cinsault Rose Non-Alcoholic Wines

Chile’s Miguel Torres is the brand behind Serena Mode, a new non-alcoholic brand made from real varietal fruit — listed on the label — and vintage-dated. Two dealcoholized expressions are currently available. Let’s give them a try.

2024 Serena Mode 0.0 Sauvignon Blanc – A big, juicy, golden grape juice experience, this is a fairly bluntly sweet experience that drinks more like Martinelli’s than table wine. A fresh green apple and lemon attack eventually takes things in a tropical direction, finishing on pineapple and mango. There’s just enough acidity to convince you this isn’t fruit juice, though it never quite comes across as a simulacrum of wine. All told, it’s as straightforward an experience as I’ve had in the N/A space. B

2024 Serena Mode 0.0 Cinsault Rosé – This moderately pink rose is a bit beefy on the nose, reminding me perhaps of carmenere or syrah over cinsault, the meaty character fading into a sort of smokiness with time in glass. That in turn moves on to notes of dried florals and potpourri, but this all clears as the palate hits you with some more typical fruitiness — red berries, namely strawberry. The finish cleans things up with a pretty, floral reprise, though it can strike the tongue as a bit green at times. B+

each $15
