turning 21 on Tuesday, looking for a good beginner bourbon, whiskey, or scotch

For as long as I can remember I’ve gravitated towards clear liquors (cheap vodka and tequila) but I want to move to something I can sip and actually enjoy.

I’ve been recommended Buffalo Trace and Jack Honey, but I’ve never ever been a fan of cheap whiskey. I’m looking for something $30-50 to celebrate with, is there anything that doesn’t taste like rimming an old trucker?

Anything sweet or smokey? Any recs are greatly appreciated
