My thoughts on being ‘drunk’ for the first time (Would appreciate discussing it)
So I don’t know if this is the place to put this but if not r/alcohol then where else, eh?
I want to preface this with saying I don’t drink. I don’t have a hard stance on it or anything and will drink on occasion (trips, toast at weddings, etc) just not something I do often or interests me.
In the last two years excluding trips out of the country I have most likely had less than 5 oz of alcohol including beer. Just a sip here and there spread out to try a flavour of something. Only time I had a full drink or multiple was at an all inclusive resort. Even then I had no more than 2 or three cocktails a day and very spread out. Never getting drunk for sure or even tipsy I believe.
I am currently on a trip and have had more to drink today than I ever had before. I am almost certainly legally intoxicated and want some feedback on my thoughts about it.
Some information before I go further. I am a bartender so I know what to look out for in drunk people. I am 21, male, 5’7″, and weigh 155lbs. I am also healthy, workout six days a week, and take creatine with lots of water daily.
As of writing this it is 5:50pm.
So my day of drinking was this.
12pm–2pm: I had one and a half cocktails and a shot of tequila.
2:00pm–2:30pm: I drank a beer while talking with people
2:30pm–3:00pm: Sometime here I had three shots of tequila in under 8 minutes.
3:30–4:00pm I had a Baileys iced coffee
I went back to my room at about 4:00pm and rested for 30 minutes and let everything settle.
Now in general? I felt fine. Yes, I know that is what all drunk people say, lol. However, I feel like I am very aware of how I was being affected by the alcohol. I had a slight headache and was a tad bit dizzy for sure. I noticed my reaction time was also a little slower than normal but not extreme. In short, I have felt worse staying up for 25h doing school work and playing video games.
I know a guy that is a head taller with over 80lbs on me who after a few beers, starts getting aggressive and tries to be violent. I know a woman who after one cocktail starts being noticeably drunk and silly.
I’m not having any mood swings, more confident, acting out of the ordinary, and my decision making skills seem to be normal. I am also writing this post while I should still be drunk. All in all this has seemed like a huge waste of time drinking and served nothing more than to give me a headache. Sure, there is drinking with others for the social aspect and a beer is nice with the meal while on vacation. Trying different flavours of cocktails is fun but that won’t get you drunk unless you are having a bunch. I am just trying them to try things that taste different while they are free at the resort.
Do I just naturally have a high tolerance? Did I not drink enough to truly feel it? Or is me being healthy, taking the creatine, and being very hydrated kind of working like a buffer? (Creatine pulls water into the muscles and I have been taking it and hydrating for months so I have more water in me than someone who doesn’t take it I believe (Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, always nice to learn))
Or could it be a mix of those reasons?
Please let me know what you think and thank you for coming to my TED talk.
