Review: Wines of Mi Sueno, 2026 Releases

No less than six months from our overview of Mi Sueño’s 2025 offerings, we return to one of our favorite Napa Valley vineyards to taste a quartet of vintages released this year. If you’re new to the site (or the wine), Mi Sueño (“my dream”) was founded by Rolando Herrera, a Mexican-born winemaker who rose from vineyard laborer to cellar master in Napa Valley. Established in 1997, they produce small-lot wines reflecting Herrera’s personal journey and Napa’s austere, modern winemaking tradition.

2022 Mi Sueño Tio Antonio Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Review

This is Mi Sueño at the top of its game. Settling deep garnet into the glass, it opens with a winding set of aromas: black currant and raspberry giving way to an earthy, almost savory edge of oak, coffee and topsoil filling in the background. There’s a subtle tension on the palate between ripeness and restraint that keeps things moving. It is less about volume and more about alignment: steady fruit framed by tannins and a slightly bracing acidity while oak and hints of baking spice and coffee keep everything in check. The finish lingers with darker tones along with a faint trace of olive tapenade as it fades. It’s a well-structured, approachable wine more focused on composition than pageantry, and all the better for it. Ready to be enjoyed now, but it deserves a special occasion worthy of both the bottle and the cause for celebration.  A / $105

2022 Mi Sueño Pugash Vineyard Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay Review

Lots to love here for die Chardonnay enthusiasts: golden apple, ripe pear, Meyer lemon, and a hint of peach, followed by toasted hazelnut on the finish. Ample minerality keeps fruit from sprawling all over the place, and while there’s a touch of vanilla cream peeking through as it unfolds, it never crashes into syrup territory. Oak frames everything nicely, mouthwatering acidity keeps the lights on, and the finish carries orchard fruit and spice with ease. Quite excellent stuff. A / $67

2022 Mi Sueño Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Review

Pouring a dark ruby color in the glass and dense with a confident stride of cassis and black cherry, with notes of dark chocolate, almond and grilled plum as it develops. It very much falls in line with the form of a classic Napa Cabernet, with firm tannins keeping the core intact while dark fruit and baking spice give the finish quite a bit of staying power. Bottles like these represent the difference between a heavyweight prizefighter and one who trains with the sole intention of becoming a self-proclaimed influencer on social media. There’s so much which could be paired with this bottle and no matter what, indulgence would be a the forefront. However, this is going to evolve into a solid A/A+ wine with about five years of cellar time. A- / $90

2023 Mi Sueño Los Carneros Chardonnay Review

Pouring a lovely hue of gold, it offers notes of ripe pear, baked apples and lemon curd on the nose. On the palate, however, it truly shines with bright acidity followed by those pear and lemon notes accompanied by a faint oak note and a touch of cream, but not the blunt-force wallop often favored by Chardonnays that confuse density with seriousness. Lemon and apple are generous on the finish, but it tightens into minerality that keep the whole affair from slumping sideways. This is incredibly well-balanced and flavorful, demonstrating how to keep fruit, oak, and minerality working together in harmony. Plenty of California Chardonnay aims for grandeur by volume. This one gets achieves it with grace. A- / $55
