Review: SemiPlume Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Wine

Created by Sabrina Weiss and sommelier Julie Dupouy, SemiPlume is a new entrant into the NA wine space, with a singular focus on its sparkling product. Available both in standard 750ml bottles and 250ml cans, the affordable offering isn’t de-alcoholized wine but rather sparkling water flavored with grape juice concentrate and a variety of botanicals, including various teas — sencha green, rooibos, chamomile, and hibiscus — plus yuzu, fig, turmeric, and more. It contains no added sugars or sweeteners.

Nonetheless, it’s a sweet-ish product, coming across like apple cider, ultimately showcasing apple cider vinegar standing in for alcohol. Lightly sweet, the wine evolves to showcase elements of pear, then later candied apples. The fizz is easygoing and cleansing, a bit floral with lavender notes but otherwise light on its feet, if a touch soapy on the finish.

In a world of solid NA sparkling wines — or “wines,” in this case — this raises no complaints.

B+ / $25 (750ml bottle) or $8 (250ml can)
