I get intense chills and goosebumps after a tiny amount of alcohol – is this alcohol intolerance?
Hi everyone,
I’m 17, male, and recently I’ve been trying very small amounts of alcohol (just a few sips or a tiny shot), but I always get a very strange reaction: I don’t turn red, I don’t get nauseous — instead, I suddenly get strong chills and goosebumps all over my body. It feels like a cold shock or as if my skin is prickling.
This happens even if I’m sitting still, not cold, and after drinking just a sip or two . It lasts maybe 1 minute, then goes away.
I’ve searched online and most people with alcohol intolerance talk about flushing or nausea, but I haven’t found many mentions of this specific “cold chills” reaction.
Could this still be a form of alcohol intolerance? Or is it something else — like a reaction to histamines or a nervous system response?
Has anyone experienced this? Should I be worried or just avoid alcohol altogether?
Thanks in advance for any help or similar experiences. 🙏
