Drink of the Week: Q Mixers Spicy Mango Margarita Mix

If you’ve been drinking Margaritas since before the cocktail renaissance of the early 2000s, you, too, probably have not so fond memories of neon-green mixes laden with artificial sweeteners and preservatives. Cut to 2024 when craft bartending is de rigueur, and Margarita mixes aren’t quite so stigmatized. Case in point: Q Mixers Margarita Mix, which won a silver medal at the 2023 LA Spirits Awards. Q has since expanded its Margarita mix lineup to include a spicy grapefruit flavor, and last week it debuted a Spicy Mango Margarita Mix. Building off its standard Margarita mix of agave and lime, this one features the sweet and spicy combo of mango and jalapeño. 

Despite my initial skepticism, I quickly became a fan. The mix reminds me of the mango nectar I grew up loving in my Filipino household: That luscious ripe flavor with a full and juicy mouthfeel. The jalapeño is manageable, bringing the heat but not being overwhelming. The mixture’s sweetness is balanced by a hint of salinity. 

It’s equally delicious mixed with tequila or with club soda for a satisfying NA refresher, and I’m looking forward to trying it with a beer or mezcal. Another bonus: it’s available in 7.5-ounce cans, making it easy to enjoy anywhere. $33.99/4-pack, amazon.com.
