Awkward moment while drinking in a group.

I’m currently sitting with some friends, drinking beer. We had a really lively conversation just a couple minutes ago, but somehow everyone is now sitting on their phones, and no one seems interested in talking anymore, so I’m just sitting here awkwardly, not sure what to do.

Why does this happen? Is this a regular effect of alcohol? Do all groups of people who drink together have these kinds of moments? If possible, I’d be interested in scientific studies regarding this phenomenon, because I haven’t been able to find anything specific regarding it
