Overnight immunity to being drunk / high tolerance
This is really just information for anyone who finds themselves in my position.
Always been someone who enjoyed their booze. Only a weekend drinker, Friday and Saturday nights only.
About 6 months ago I went from being someone who would get a buzz from say half a bottle of wine and a couple of beers to it not working. I assumed I’d built up some kind of tolerance as over the Xmas period when I wasn’t working I was having a couple of beers most days.
So I did dry January, didn’t have my first beer until mid February. This was a rugby boys stag do. So as you can imagine it was a baptism of fire.
After 23 pints of lager, IPA and cider I was still sober as a judge.
A few weekends later my wife went away for the weekend so I decided to really try testing my tolerance. After 4 bottles of wine and half a bottle of vodka – all I had was the slightest feeling of being “not quite sober”. Certainly not even tipsy.
Cut a long story short, I’ve now spoken to 4 doctors and had my liver tested and everything is normal.
All 4 doctors said the same thing – yes, your body can just decide at any given point that it’s built a tolerance to alcohol and not give you the feelings from it any more. (Though no doubt the physical damage alcohol does will still happen)
I admit I didn’t want to believe that when the first doctor said it so I went n saw another and another.
So it would seem my days of having a drunkardly night are now gone.
I admit there’s worse problems to have I guess but I’ll definitely miss it.
