Review: Convite Mezcal Espadin-Madrecuishe

We’ve covered two of Convite‘s mezcals previously — I now count nine on the market — and today we’re back with a third expression, made from a blend of espadin and madrecuishe agave.

There’s a tiny hint of color on this spirit, but it otherwise hits quite a few familiar mezcal notes. Intently beefy up front, the nose sees its smoke giving the mezcal a distinct barbecue character, a touch green and more than a little ashy. The palate quickly follows in lockstep, popping right away with a heavy smoked meat character, some notes of roasted marshmallow and overripe orange adding some sweetness. The finish returns to the chimney, or the barbecue pit, at least, keeping the focus on toasty mesquite notes.

92 proof. NOM-O231X.
