Newbie question: does liquor and beer eventually start tasting better?

I despise the taste of all liquors unless they are mixed. I also do not like the taste of any beers and have to sip them really slowly which isn’t good if I’m planning on getting drunk. As for liquor, it always burns my throat and leaves my stomach feeling queasy for a while after a shot. Some of my friends seem to do just fine with both which makes me wonder if I just have different taste buds or I haven’t acquired the taste yet. If anybody has an answer I’d really appreciate it. In case this helps at all, I absolutely hate spicy foods of all kinds (relation to liquor burning my throat?). Thanks.
