Glenmorangie Launches Grand Vintage 1998

Scotch brand Glenmorangie has unveiled a 23-year-old limited edition that results from one of the whisky creator’s earliest experiments. Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1998, which joins the distillery’s renowned Bond House No.1 vintage collection, showcases some of the first Glenmorangie ever aged in new charred oak.

Dr. Bill Lumsden, the brand’s director of whisky creation, began the project in 1998, aging the whisky in heavily charred virgin wood casks. After 23 years he finished the whisky in oloroso sherry casks, resulting in a single malt that balances ripe fruit and orange chocolate notes, sugared almonds and spice, the company says.

Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1998, bottled at 43% ABV, has a suggested retail price of $900. The brand, owned by LVMH, in July had released new packaging across its core Scotch range: Original, La Santa and Quinta Ruban.
