Review: White Wines of Feudi di San Gregorio, 2022 Releases

Feudi di San Gregorio’s Campania red wines are well known, but its white wines are a delight as well, each made with native varietals that are rarely seen in the U.S. Today we look at three options appropriate for late summer sipping — or, perhaps, any time.

2020 Feudi di San Gregorio Greco di Tufo – Creamy and floral at once, this aromatic wine made from the eponymous Greco di Tufo grape offers a brisk note of honeysuckle balanced by a squeeze of lemon, then moving into notes of baked apple, dusted with some cinnamon. A touch of earthiness, not quite barnyard, gives the finish some gravity, before a reprise of lemon peel arrives. Refreshing yet soulful. A- / $28

2019 Feudi di San Gregorio Fiano di Avellino – A somewhat flat expression of fiano, this wine sees quiet notes of lemon, green apple, and a dusting of white pepper, before fading quickly into the background. A slightly gummy texture plus a touch of underripe fig gives the wine a somewhat undercooked quality. B / $28

2020 Feudi di San Gregorio Falanghina – A nice combination of the two above wines, this falanghina-based offering is creamy and rich, featuring notes of melon and fig, spritzed with lemon. A creamy, almost buttery texture gives this wine ample depth, a pinch of salt on the finish pairing iconically with its cantaloupe elements. A- / $23
