Serious question: Do alcoholics drink even when ill?

I am currently dealing with the Rona, likely since Saturday, and had my last beer on Sunday noon. I have very a mild case and have been feeling okay since Tuesday, but I didn’t feel like drinking since it started. This is mainly due to my throat feeling a bit off. Normally, by this day of the week, I would have been out with friends or mixed myself a nice drink late at night.

This got me thinking. If you’re an alcoholic, do you keep drinking even when you are physically ill? Or does physical illness always kill the urge to drink? You have to drink, right? Because there will be side effects when you stop. Meanwhile, the drinking when you are already sick would severely impact your convalescence. I can’t imagine hoisting a few when having a fever being helpful.
