Is scotch supposed to taste like medicine?

For context, I had to take liquid Prednisone as a child. And as anyone who’s taking Prednisone knows it’s got a very sharp taste and smell. A couple of days ago one of my friends got a bottle of scotch and wanted me to try it. So I did and it tasted like Prednisone and I don’t know why. Is it supposed to taste this way? Was it a bad batch? Am I insane?
