Review: 2023 One Stone Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles
Ancient Peaks offshoot One Stone continues to surprise with its ultra-value wines.
The 2023 edition of this screw-capped cabernet defies expectations, offering moderated sweetness and varietal authenticity, notes of currants tempered with oak, rhubarb, and a dash of vanilla, finishing with a touch of spicy licorice. Notes of nutmeg cling to the finish, which echoes the gently tannic currants visible from the start, eventually followed by touches of dark chocolate. It’s all quite gentle and approachable from start to finish, less earthy than the 2021 bottling and more immediately approachable — great in its own, different way. Seems like a fine way to go at things to me.
Again, a great value.
