Children of alcoholics: Why can I handle way more alcohol than my friends who drink every weekend, even though I barely ever drink?

My dad was an alcoholic pretty much his whole life and passed away early because of it. My mom, on the other hand, never drank at all, and we grew up in a pretty strict household.
I’m old enough to drink now, but I almost never drink—I don’t go out for “drinks” or hit the bars unless it’s a special occasion like someone’s birthday.
Recently, it was my first real night out for a friend’s birthday. My friends go out and drink every single weekend, but somehow, I was able to handle a shit ton more alcohol than all of them??? WHYY? without feeling like it affected me the same way.
Does anyone else who grew up with an alcoholic parent notice they have a surprisingly HIGH natural tolerance, even if they barely drink themselves? Why is this a thing?
