Question about beer taste

Is all beer supposed to be bitter? Most people I know seem to prefer the “taste” of beer vs liquor or mixed drinks. Beer doesn’t burn but its horrible taste lingers.

Or is it only cheap brands like bud lite, Busch, bud wiser, Miller, corona and Heineken etc… The beers you can buy anywhere and at any bar.

Not sure if hops is the source of beers flavor. Or why the flavor is sought after or enjoyed.

“it’s better ice cold” but it isn’t, and you have to suffer through two full pitchers to get any effects.
