Review: The WSJ Iconic Wines of France Trio 2026

Years ago the Wall Street Journal had a prominent if slightly bizarre wine review section. While that has faded away, the news operation still markets wine for purchase through a club of sorts. Recently we received one of its offerings, a trilogy of white wines from various locales in France (Burgundy, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and Alsace) called The WSJ Wine Iconic Whites of France Trio.

The full set is available for a limited time. We’re also including pricing for the bottles if you were to source them individually.

2023 Château Sixtine Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc – Quite luscious with overtones of peach cobbler and apricots in syrup, undercut with gentle salinity and minerality. It’s a soothing wine with lingering sweetness, while notes of orchard blossoms perk up the aromatics as the finish lingers. Touches of vanilla arrive late, applied with the lightest of hands. A / $67

2023 M. Dutron Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes – A classic expression of chardonnay from Burgundy, bright with lemon but touched with green apple and some white peach notes. A classic green table grape character evolves on the brightly acidic midpalate, a gentle salinity offering a cleansing and exceptionally bright finish. Hints of fresh linen take you out of what is, from start to finish, an iconically Burgundian journey. A / $51

2023 Edouard Leiber Riesling Grand Cru Pfingstberg – Quite tart, this wine is effusive with up-front green apple and pear notes, heavy with lime and lemon, but time in glass makes room for a significant note of honey, particularly on the heavy nose. The wine settles down with a little warmth and time in glass,  the honey-lemon finish ultimately evoking a glass of chilled tea. B+ / $50

$140 for the set
