Are there really people who don’t like pure alcohol?

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a classic cocktail like a Martini or Moscow mule. However, both here and on other subs, I see people say, “oh, I can’t drink XYZ without a chaser,” or, “oh, I can’t drink XYZ without mixing it with something.” If you don’t like the taste of a certain alcohol, why are you even drinking it? You’re just doing a disservice to yourself. I mostly drink my spirits neat and if I couldn’t stand them, I wouldn’t get them in the first place.
