Review: Tally Tumbler Golf 20 Oz
The latest contender in the category of “things I never knew I needed” could be the Tally Tumbler, which is a literal twist on the ubiquitous insulated drink containers. Per their website, the Tally Tumbler is “a scorekeeping tumbler built for golf, backyard games, tailgates, and recreational play. It helps you track scores without using a phone, paper scorecard, or separate counter.”
To have any shot in a saturated market, it first needs to pass muster and hold its own in a rather crowded field of top rated insulated drink containers. It should fit in most cupholders, be sturdily made and keep drinks cold or hot for a reasonable period of time.
It’s time to tee up a round of their 20 ounce Gold Tumbler.
The base of the Tally Golf is approximately 2.86 inches wide and fits nicely with the most common cupholder measurements, which are typically 2.6 to 3.0 inches. But more relevantly, it fit comfortably in my husband’s golf bag, and that seemed to unequivocally settle the matter.
The materials, construction, and feel of the Tally stands up solidly to its peers. There is great weight and good grip on the finish.
For insulation, I applied the “overnight ice” test which is to fill the test subject with ice and leave it overnight on the kitchen counter. The Tally preserved two-thirds of the ice after 10 hours. The equivalent “forgotten coffee” test resulted in similar respectable duration. I filled it with coffee at 186 degrees, and after 4 hours it cooled to 124 degrees. (Caveat: the top was completely sealed, so with recurring sips, expect greater heat loss.)
And now we turn to the chef’s kiss of the “tally” in the “Tally.” There are 3 rubberized rotating rings discreetly embedded at the top with various markings to track some presumably critical metrics including number of strokes, FIR (which measures driving accuracy) and GIR (which measures approach accuracy), and possibly the most underappreciated metric, number of lost balls. I’m not a golfer but I sense these details must help the recreational golfer really feel seen.
My husband was particularly, and perhaps excessively, excited with how much time and logistical annoyance was saved by not having to pull out a piece of paper or a phone to mark scores. I could almost see the glorious visions parading in his head of finishing a hole and taking a satisfied (or frustrated?) sip from his Tally while rotating the relevant bands with the deftness of a juggling Rubic’s Cube master. Voila. On to the next hole.
Plenty of fun colors to choose from, and they offer personalized engravings. If you want to be even more extra, you can also order one that comes with a lid that works as a Bluetooth speaker. You read that right.
Note that the Tally requires a little more TLC than your standard rugged tumbler, and hand washing is highly recommended over tossing into the dishwasher, which doesn’t seem that big of an ask. Let’s see if we can have nice things.
