Why don’t I feel any effects of alcohol anymore?
I drank A LOT through my early 20s and slowed down when I hit about 28. Tolerance was never really an issue, even at my heaviest drinking my first drink would get me feeling loose. I’m 32 now and I took a year long break of drinking and I have a much better relationship with alcohol, but I don’t want to drink because I don’t feel anything anymore.
I’ve only drank 2 nights since my break and both times I didn’t feel drunk at all. The other night I had 2 margaritas at a party and felt nothing (they were strong, I made them myself, and I had a very light meal before). I wanted to feel something so I took a shot and had a beer and still nothing. Usually that would be more than enough to get me feeling very tipsy, but it just felt like I had been drinking water all night so I just stopped. I’m usually pretty uncoordinated after my first 2 drinks and yet I was perfectly balanced all night. (Note: I still don’t drive or anything if I’ve drank, even though I feel sober)
I’m fine giving up alcohol now that it does nothing for me since I really don’t want to try emulating my 20’s run in a 30’s body. But I am curious as to how my tolerance shot through the roof after I stopped drinking for a year.
