why does moonshine taste like how nail polish smells?

i accidentally drank moonshine a while back and i thought it was whiskey (was in a whiskey bottle) so i drank it like it was whiskey and i dont remember what happened but when i got my memory back i was covered in puke 🫩

it was really nasty and i was painting ladybugs on my nails today and it smelled exactly how the moonshine tasted??

for some context, my grandpa made it. he grew up in portugal when there was the dictatorship and his dad died when he was 7 so he had to work in the mountains and they’d make moonshine to stay warm. he didn’t stop when he immigrated and i ran out of whiskey so i went to my parents basement and grabbed the bottle and had like 6 shots 🫩
