What can I expect from vodka?

I live in England and I can get a good bottle of vodka for like £18 from Asda, and I’m going out with friends soon and considering just taking a bottle of vodka, no idea how to drink it or anything, I’m 18 and have only ever had cider and like my dad’s beer. So, any precautions? Or other recommendations of alcohol?
