At what point does wine tasting click because I feel like I’ve been waiting years
I’ve been taking wine more seriously for a few years now tastings, paying attention to what I’m drinking, looking up notes trying to learn as I go. I can tell when I like something and when I don’t but describing what I’m tasting? I just blank.
People around me say things like “you can taste the minerality” or “there’s some spice in there” and I’m sitting there thinking, it just tastes like wine to me. Has anyone else hit this exact wall and managed to get past it? Even when I focus everything lands in the same broad categories fruity, dry, strong. I don’t pick up on specific notes unless I’ve already read them first and even then I’m not sure if I’m tasting them or just convincing myself. I’ve put the effort in and I feel like I’ve plateaued somewhere well below where I expected to be by now.
