Review: El Jimador Tequila Silver (Updated 2026)
We first reviewed El Jimador Blanco in 2014, when this entry-level offering was in the midst of a reinvention. Produced at the same distillery as Herradura, it’s reportedly the #1 selling 100% agave tequila in Mexico — or at least it was at the time. The product is a Lowlands spirit, unaged and named in honor of the jimador, a Mexican agave harvester.
In 2025, El Jimador revamped its design again — formally rebranding its Blanco as Silver — and simplifying its bottle design. Twelve years later, we’re heading back into the breach to taste it with fresh eyes, ears, noses, and tongues.

El Jimador Tequila Silver Review (2026)
The nose is quite green, featuring fresh jalapeno and serrano peppers in abundance, backed by citrusy lemon and some lime notes. The tropical hints notes in the 2014 review are absent here — as are, mercifully, the savory and meaty elements — which makes for a simpler experience. However, extended time in glass evokes an industrial aroma akin to Lemon Pledge.
The palate is very sharp and peppery, again showcasing raw jalapeno backing up an earthy note of hemp rope, slightly barnyardy. Biting straight through to the finish, the pungency never lets up, not even for a second, the finish remaining focused clearly on bright green pepper notes, dusted with fresh black pepper to take us all out.
I love the price, but the tequila lacks the finesse needed to be an approachable straight sipper. As a mixer, it’s passable.

El Jimador Tequila Blanco Review (2014)
There’s modest pepper on the nose, with red chiles, lemon, coconut, and roasted meats. The body is a little all over the place, with notes of chile oil, grilled pineapple, more lemon, and a sultry agave/herbal character on the finish. There’s quite a bit of that funky meat character on the finish, but it’s not overwhelming or pungent.
All told, El Jimador is pleasant enough for journeyman cocktail duty, but the spirit lacks finesse, and the body is decidedly on the thin side. That said, it is fortunate to be lacking the back-of-throat burn so common in cheaper tequilas. So that’s nice.
