My take on AA and why I just can’t stick with it

So I’ve been a life long drinker and it’s started to become a problem so I decided to quit. My cousin suggested AA. After having been to several meetings, I just can’t go anymore. Here’s why: 1) None of these people in the program are psychologists or therapists. So you could get a sponsor that is a schizophrenic who tells you that pounding your head against the wall is the key to sobriety. 2) They claim not to be religious, but they are, and the Big Book is their bible. 3) It’s a one sized fits all drunk in the case of AA. Any alcoholic fits a certain mold, and the rest of society doesn’t. If you are an alcoholic, then you are someone who can’t live on your own without constant AA meetings, you’re someone that can’t live in your own head, and you’re someone that lived an angry, miserable life only to be saved by AA and God. 4) They believe that God is leading their life, essentially that they’re puppets on God’s string and they also believe that nothing has ever been so fulfilling. 5) They throw out any and every pitch to keep you. I had a sponsor who told me on day one that I’d now be able to see the stars for the first time in my life and enjoy the feel of sand on my toes at the beach. 6) Everyone in the program that I met was proud that AA WAS their life. They didn’t know what I meant when I said what do you do outside of AA. AA was the focus of their life and any second they weren’t at work or at a T-Ball game, they were happily discussing the steps at an AA meeting.
