Review: Hera the Dog Vodka

Launched in 2019, Hera the Dog Vodka is made with 100% organic non-GMO Italian wheat, distilled 7 times, and filtered through coconut charcoal. It is distilled in Nashville, Tennessee and includes no sugar, no preservatives, and no additives. But I’m smitten by the vodka’s name, Hera the Dog, and the cute pup that appears on the bottle. Happily, it is more than just good advertising. Hera the Dog Vodka was begun by animal rescue advocate Julia Pennington, who has donated 6% of all sales to animal rescue efforts and has ambitious plans to increase the level of support as the brand takes off. My hats off to anyone working to support animal rescue. Let’s give the vodka a try.

Hera the Dog Vodka Review

Poured neat in the glass, the vodka offers gentle aromas of lightly sweet cereal grains, fresh dough, and peach, along with a light hospital note. On gitdy sip, what stands out most is the vodka’s creamy mouthfeel. It is surprisingly oily and mouthcoating. On the palate, as with the nose, it leads with lightly sweet cereal grains and peach, but it also presents gentle notes of lemon peel, black pepper, and anise. Hera the Dog Vodka works well in a cocktail, but it can also stand on its own and is good enough to sip neat. Considering the price, this vodka is a steal, and it’s good to know that some of the cost will help animals in need.
