Alcohol recommendations?

I’m in my 20s and have yet to find a spirit I enjoy sipping on. I’ve also only drank cheap liquor. Please recommend your favourite spirits for sipping on and not mixing. I don’t mind what kind of alcohol it is as long as it’s 40%. I’m interested in finding a whiskey like a rye or a perhaps a gin.
