Review: Bunnahabhain Feis Ile 2025 Turas Math No. 1 15 Years Old

Bunnahabhain‘s 2025 Feis Ile release was distilled in 2008, and this one-off release is a blend of two types of casks, both made with unpeated barley. The first was matured for its full 15 years in Manzanilla sherry casks, a standby style for the distillery. The second cask type is aged for 10 years in refill casks then finished for 5 years in Amarone wine casks.

These two cask types are married in unstated proportions and bottled at full strength. (Turas math means “good journey” in Gaelic, by the way.)

Let’s dig in.

Bunnahabhain Feis Ile 2025 Turas Math No. 1 15 Years Old Review

This is a particularly woody and earthy expression of Bunnahabhain, even for a whiskey known for those qualities. The sherry is sharp and well-oxidized, with aromatic notes of fennel and tanned leather adding even more of a savory vibe. Black pepper and some petrol add an even richer component that, while not peaty, evokes the island from which it came.

The palate is a brooding think-piece, thick with sherry and that unmistakable chewiness that comes from aging in red wine barrels. Almost gummy at times, there’s a mouth-filling quality to the whisky that runs from milk chocolate to vanilla to raspberry, but it’s all kept in check by a swirl of cotton balls soaked in oatmeal, giving the body an overly chewy quality that doesn’t exude freshness. Salty and maritime in fits, it’s never smoky but always oily and undulating, with a seaweed-laced finish that puckers the mouth.

111.8 proof.
