Tracking units v drinks
Noting the trend on Reddit for the coloured spreadsheets tracking drinks consumption over a year, I’ve been tracking my consumption for about 5 years but I track the units not drinks… is this not a common thing?
The reason I ask is that I realised a pint (here in the Uk) of Guinness or 5% Lager is approx 2.5 units whereas a small can of craft pale ale for example at 4% can be about 1.2 units… so essentially half? But both are “a drink”?
Point is it would maybe surprise people if they saw the units in strong beer, wine, free-pouring spirits and I guess if you want a drink you could pace out a whole line of smaller drinks and drink for the same time but consume less?
I should probably add I drink 4/5 days a week between 2-6 units mostly at home as my standard and I’m measuring the wine / spirits out to do portion control… I guess if you’re out in pubs / bars and getting drunk you struggle to track your intake?
Interesting note, since tracking I realised that drinking pints after work is by far the way I drink most… I can drink 4 or 5 pints in 2-3 hours and then be home by say 7pm and I’ve had 12-13 units!!
