Denied sale

Went to buy a bottle of wine at a local liquor store in MA and was denied the sale because it was “after 9 PM.”

I googled my state’s liquor laws and this isn’t a thing. I tried to see if this was a local/town policy, and nope, totally ok to buy alcohol.

I’m 32, have a valid license. What happened?!
