Review: 2025 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau
Your first 2025 vintage wine of the year is here, and by that we of course mean the latest Beaujolais Nouveau, the ultra-fresh red made from gamay grapes that is intended for consumption before the end of the year. As we have frequently sampled, Georges Duboeuf sent us its current release, hot off the press. Let’s dig in.
Darker in color than I expected, this year’s vintage looks rich and dense, but offers a nose of fresh grape must, cranberry, and black pepper, with just a hint of vegetation and turned earth running beneath it. The gently sour palate offers few surprises, though there’s a stronger fruitiness here than we often see with Nouveau, tart cherry mingling with rhubarb — and surprisingly a little chocolatey as it lingers in the glass.
As with the 2024 Duboeuf, this wine is very young but not at all off-putting, vibrant and quite fresh — though, as always, you’ll need to be prepared for some level of sourness. Well-tempered here, it’s quite charming on the whole.
