I think I got roofied with an alcoholic drink, but I don’t know much about alcohol, please help
The drink looked like iced tea, but it tasted strange. It had an extremely sweet, thick syrup at the bottom, almost like it was trying to hide another taste. I read on google that artificial sugar can make our body absorb alcohol much faster? Is that true?
There was also a weird burning in my throat. The more I drank, the more I felt pressure in my head and my vision started to blur. My coworker even said I looked like I was zoning out.
I’m in my early twenties, female, and interning at an events company. Last night we had an official event at a bar and restaurant. I was there for work, not to drink. A barista kept giving me free drinks (non-alcoholic) earlier in the night, and later another guy who worked there started flirting too. They both felt weirdly competitive with each other.
When I was about to leave, one of them insisted I take a “free” drink even after I said no. I gave in because I didn’t want to seem rude, and that was the drink I described above.
By midnight I was dizzy, nauseous, and stumbling. It didn’t feel like normal alcohol. I went to the ER, got an IV drip and a urine test. The results came back negative, but the doctor said my symptoms aligned with GHB use and that it doesn’t show up easily on tests since it leaves the body quickly.
The last time I drank alcohol was over a year ago, and I remember the effects didn’t hit this instantly
I feel violated and shaken, but I’m sharing this because I want others to be careful. Even fancy, highly rated places aren’t always safe. And being polite should never come before your safety.
