Review: White Wines of Livio Felluga, 2025 Releaeses

One of Italy’s best-known white wine producers (though it also produces plenty of reds), Livio Felluga rules the Friuli-Venezia Giulia area in northern Italy, and deservedly so. Today we look at a trio of bottlings from this operation which predates WWI.

2023 Livio Felluga Friulano Friuli Colli Orientali – Friulano grapes give this wine a delightful acidity and a gentle floral quality, featuring ample minerals and layers of spice, set against a backdrop of lemon curd and tempering honeydew. Some salinity keeps things lively, followed by layers of honeysuckle, in time revealing a drapery of the lightest bit of caramel. Both pretty and brisk, this is a wonderfully balanced white that can work for just about any occasion. A- / $28

2023 Livio Felluga Pinot Grigio Collio DOC – A bright blend of lemon curd, tangerine, and vanilla makes for a much denser and chewier wine than your typical pinot grigio. Overtones of white jasmine flowers temper the fruit from becoming overly dominant, as does a moderated minerality. A layer of almond gives the finish even more backbone, though there’s ample grip and structure to keep any sweetness in check. Definitely an elevated version of the Italian classic that may surprise some drinkers used to simpler fare. A- / $31

2021 Livio Felluga Abbazia di Rosazzo DOCG – A big blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Malvasia, and Ribolla Gialla grown on the Rosazzo Abbey estate, this wine threads the needle of fruit and acid, showcasing notes of melon and sun-dried hay, lemon peel and chewy guava. Gently floral with time in glass, a toasted coconut element emerges with time, giving the wine a stronger tropical vibe. Honeysuckle perks up the finish, giving the florals a headier, more ephemeral feel. Versatile. A- / $69
